Text tag with adjustable frame.

Good day all,

Doing some drawings of vessels with nozzles with various tagnumbers for the nozzles. The tagging is variable length alphanumeric, with some having a last digit with a smaller font size. The client wants a round frame around it but will settle for a slot shape as well. Been fiddling with balloons (but having to use the setup for a parts list is a pain) and with datum symbols (cannot do 2 different font sizes). Tried creating a sketch symbol but I cannot get the frame shape to automatically adjust to the text string length. The text frame option when inserting text into the drawing is not what my client wants either, and the box is not linked to the text anymore once you placed it.

Anyone have an idea how to achieve this? I have Googled and search but I am either using the wrong search terminology or the solution does not exist - which I find hard to believe.

Would appreciate some pointers here.

Hi, Kobus.  This sounds very familiar to me.  I seem to remember seeing a custom solution to this several years ago when I was still using Inventor daily.  I've been searching the iLogic forum, but I can't find anything yet.  You may want to post a question around this in that forum, and see if anyone can find or create a solution for you based on what you need.

We can leave this thread going in case someone else has any ideas as well.

Hi! The only thing sort of behaves this way is the Inspection Dimension. You may edit a drawing dimension -> Inspection Dimension -> select Oval shape. You may hide the dimension text and type in or reference iProperties. The oval will adjust accordingly.

Many thanks!

I just did an expirement with Balloon Style, by creating a new style, and setting the property to File Name (just to test it).  Make sure the box is checked to stretch to fit text.  I did not add this to anything in Object Defaults, but you could if you wanted.  It works to make the balloon stretch to the text, so this might be closer to what you wanted?
