Hello all,
Context:
I have recently been modelling some custom parts for a personal project on Autodesk Inventor. I have most of the parts finished, but the last one is causing me some trouble. Once finished, I will send off my .stl files to be 3D printed (probably in PLA) via an incredibly useful and well-priced site called 3D Hubs.
My task:
I want to model a 64 tooth T2.5 timing belt pulley.
My problem:
I know very little about gears (I think timing belt pulleys count as gears). Obviously I understand the fundermental functions of a gear. I understand how gear ratios affect power and I understand a little bit about tooth profiles (tooth pitch, diametrical pitch, module etc...) but I don't know enough to confidently model a T2.5 timing belt pulley in Inventor. Whatsmore, I don't really plan on learning. I would like to simply download a template for this timing belt pulley and import it straight into Inventor.
A stupid and pointless metaphor:
This analogy may not make a whole lot of sence, but I'll put it here anyway to try and explain why I don't intend on learning how to model this part. A car designer doesn't need to know every detail of how a halogen bulb works, understanding that is the job of the light designer, all the car designer needs to know is the fundermentals of the headlight unit. Similarly, I unstand the purpose and basic use of this timing belt pulley, but I don't need to know exactly how the tooth-profile and everything works.
