Can anyone advise me on how best to sweep between both faces along the suggested path on this object (see attached). I'm using the sweep tool but the faces are not avaiolable to me for some reason.

Is something similar to this what you are after?

...or maybe something closer to this?

That's very good, I'd be keen to learn how you achieved each version though the second is the one I was looking for.

I've spent some time with it. After looking at the initial image, I came up wth something like that.

Too many zigzags in my workflow, not good for learning.

Additional comment: Don't trust your preferred 2nd solution above - it cannot be bent.

Here's a STEP. Dimensions need editing with a new version.

I've been having a look at both files but the Whisper bent transition is really nice. May I ask what is meant by the term Whisper? I wondered also if you are drawing the 3d sketch by using an intersection curve? Are the work axis just the means of adding the points and if so which type of work point did you select?

many thanks and I greatly admire your work by the way.

I am trying recreate your sketch for Whisper - Bent Transition.ipt and am wondering if you started with the construction lines? before creating rectangles for the inner and outer circle diameters? it's alot to work out and I would learn alot from a step by step guide to it. I would eb happy to pay you for a tutorial or even a video of it being made so that I can track, copy and learn the appropriate workflow. Any chance of this please?

Whisper means to speak softly.

I used the Centerpoint Slot command.

Attach your new *.ipt file here.

What is your purpose for this design?  Do you need a Flat Pattern? Will you make the real part?  As noted by @WHolzwarth some changes to my example would be needed for a standard sheet metal flat pattern (unless it will be a deformation process).  My first attempt was just an effort to clarify what you are after as your original design did not look right to me.

LOL! Did you get that from Merriam-Webster's online?

We plan to create a series of 3D models for an AR exhibit at a local museum of industrial life. They have a large number of 19th century technical drawings that we will use to recreate some of the components from a c1880 Hot Blast Furnace used in the production of pig iron.

The file attached for you once more is the tuyere system which injects steam into the furnace bosch.

The part you were helping me with was a detachable clamp which locks together two pipes of different diameter sizes.

I'm interested to learn how best to create the sketch for this part but will research the centre point slot command for now.

Any chance of a screen clip showing your workflow when drawing it?

I assume this means that you will 3D Print rather than cut and bend sheet metal?

Sketch Slot...  is under the Rectangle drop down...

Based on the dimensions in your screen capture, find attached an example of how you can use surfaces to do this.

I'm not sure about some of the other parameters, but this should give you an idea of another method.

Find attached another part using another method. This part is based on the exact profile in your screen capture, which is more accurate than the surfacing method I did above. I've used the Bend method to make plate 'armor' for trucks when they want crazy shapes for fenders, bumpers and grilles like this one:

I'd really like to learn how to create this part via both methods as a useful learning excercise. Starting with any best practices with regards creating the sketch. Do you ever do one to one zoom sessions for a fee? or provide videos showing your workflow agin for a fee? As an HND student here in the UK I'm finding it a real challenge to get tailored tuition on inventor on specific problems I'm having.

Thanks for this JD, Can you advise why I can't right click, copy and paste your Bent Transition sketch into a new sketch in my original Sleeve part file. Copy option is not showing in the drop down list?

I've copied your Bent Transition sketch to the best of my abilities and added the same constraints where possible but my version is still purple yet I'm not seeing the Not Fully Constrained prompt. I've attached the file for you in the hope that you can help identify why this might be?
