Surfacing - Sculpt Tool Help

Good Morning All,

I'm fairly new to the 3-D Surfacing and Inventor is fighting me all the way. I've attached an ipt. for the part I'm having issues with. What I need is for Stitch Surface 17 to be a channel in my block, which I would normally use Sculpt for. The Stitched 17 is water tight and should work, but maybe I'm missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (sorry for the messy tree, as I said I am fairly new to this)

Thanks,

Matt

Hi! I took a look at the part. I think the issue is with Stitch Surface 16. I don't get what you are trying to accomplish with the surface. It looks like Stitch Surface 16 is redundant. I delete the surface and edit Stitch Surface 17 to include Stitch Surface 15. Sculpt seems work fine.

I do have a question regarding the extensive use of boundary patch. The cut you are making is like a CAM path, right? I don't think the bottom face using boundary patch is the best approach. It should be done via Sweep Guide Surface or Thicken or Rule Surface.

Many thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me! Honestly, I'm learning as I go and am needing to release jobs at the same time so there may be some features I didn't end up using and just haven't deleted. I tried replacing Stitch 15 like you said, but don't see the Sculpt working still. Can you re-attach the ipt. so I can compare the two? Also, I do use thicken/rule surface frequently, but this was a 3-D line brought in from the Customers CAD and was giving me fits. As for the surface sweep, I never have any luck as I'm not entirely sure how it works yet. Is there a good tutorial for Surfacing in Inventor online or a course even? I would love to be able to learn how to properly utilize all of these tools.

Thanks again!

Hi! Please take a look at the attached part. I de-select Stitch Surface 16 but select Stitch Surface 15 instead. Sculpt seems to work.

Many thanks!

Thanks! I see what you mean now with the patching not leaving a flat surface. I will try and use the ruled surface off the side walls again and see if I can get a better result. Have a good day!
