Surfaces to solid

Can someone show me the correct way to convert this step file (which results in surfaces) to a solid body (part - ipt).

There are a rather large number of missing surfaces.

Can you explain a bit about why you need as solid body rather than as surface body?

All those chamfers and radii are gonna kill you!

Like JD says, it's got a lotta missing faces.

Probably translation output settings need to change from the original source.

When I use 'purchase parts', I usually make my own from scratch in Inventor.

That way, they're 'native' and I make them as simple as possible, but with enough detail to make sure it will bolt-up, not have any interferences, and connect to what it connects to (and look like what's in reality)

If this was my job, I would figure out what I absolutely must have, then build it inside inventor. Probably won't take you more than a 1/2 an hour.

OTOH, if you have a Library of these to make, then that's a different story!

When using the parts that has (only?) surfaces, it comes in my assembly as transparent, and not vidible in upper-assemblies or drawings unless you start to mess with some visibility parameters...

I don't need to do a library from them, but it comes in occacionally

You can turn off the Translucency of the surfaces and you can set Surfaces to be recognized just like solid bodies in drawings.

I know where to set the translucency to "off", but were can I set "surfaces to be recognized just like solids"?

If you need the correct mass property - you can override the iProperties.

Thanks for tips guys. We are running into an issue with this. 

Selecting any of the available options does not work. The original designer is looking at the part in question, but as of now we're kind of stuck.

Hi Brad,

The Composite node consists 393 individual surfaces. They are unstitched and grouped to a Composite node. You may either right-click on it -> Repair Bodies -> Stitch. Or just select it -> Stitch as a solid body. After that, the drawing section view will show the hatch.

Thank you for your assistance. I was able to Stitch the Body and it is now visible on our drawing. I created a Workflow so we should be able to mitigate any future issues.
