Surface Modelling

Hi all, I am 3 D modelling as surfaces a part to take into a separate Finite Elemtn Solver. By no means a drafting man but i can hack my way around inventor OKAy for the most. I'm extremely frustrated by surface modelling. I feel that i should be able to multi select. for instance if i make 4 non-contiguous lines on a sketch, i want to extrude these lines a certain direction to give me four surfaces. the way i'm doing it at present, i can only select one line, extrude it, go back and turn the sketch back on(visibility) then extrude the 2nd, 3rd and 4th as separate steps. I'm finding similar productivity problems with split face, trim and delete commands.

Why can't you create the geometry as solid and then convert to surfaces?

It may be that your geometry is not continuous. Check that the end points are constrained and you have at least tangency applied.

Use the 'close loop' tool to check, right click on any line our curve to find this tool.

Finally, if you don't get the full curve, pause over the curve when selecting, or right click and choose 'select other'.

I suppose to model a surface, we need to use surface modeling softwares, for example NX, Catia or Pro-E at where we can control the curves easier than in Inventor

 khoido,

You can create complex G2 & G3 surface models with Inventor, however - as Bill points out it is not necesarrly as efficient as NX, Catia, or Pro-E
