What you are probably missing is that not only does your Inventor Sheet Metal template need to have the sheet metal style added, but it must be saved to your Design Data (Styles Library) also. To do this, you need to have an Inventor project file where the Style Library is set to Read-Write. I do not recommend you have this setting Read-Write in your production project file because you, and others, may accidentally overwrite your styles library. I recommend a separate template work project file. Take a look at my screencast, it will show you what I mean. If you save your sheet metal styles in your template and in the styles library, it will be available for all future drawings created with your sheet metal template.
