STL file 1:10 scale

Hi, Please can anyone help. I'm trying to get two assemblies 3D printed, I have been told they need to be scaled down to 1:10 scale. How do I export an Inventor assembly to an STL file at 1:10 from Inventor. The printers should I believe be able to do this easily but I'm not having much luck.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,

There is a way to scale the mesh automatically without having to change source geometry. Here is what you need to do.

To scale up 10 times, you can set the assembly document unit to centimeter (Tools -> Doc Settings -> Units). Then export to STL in millimeter (Save Copy As -> STL -> Options.

To achieve 100 times, you can set assembly doc unit to meter and STL export unit to centimeter.

To achieve 1000 times, you can set assembly doc unit to meter and STL export unit to millimeter.

Many thanks!

Hi, the parts and assembly are in mm but I needed to “down scale” it by a factor of 10 that’s 1 tenth the actual size so it can be printed at a manageable size.
It’s no big deal really, I’m happy to derive an assembly and scale it down but what is a ball ache, is having to re-model the parts to suit the tolerances ( inaccuracy ) of the printer. Turns out this 3D printing gig looks good but what they don’t tell you is the ball ache and amount of re-work required to get a usable result.

Thanks again.
