Step file to Solid Object Trouble

Hi All,

Could someone please help out. I have a step file I want to make in to a solid object to conduct some CFD. I am having trouble repairing the file and can't seem to get it.

Unsure of the original program it was drawn in.

File seems to be done in Pro/E Creo. But getting a solid from it is no easy task.

There are many overlapping faces (one of them marked in the screenshot), that need trimming and stitching. Some will be easy to combine, some won't.

With overlapping faces, a solid can be done by Sculpt in theory. Here it's a complex model; Sculpt will not help.

Still a long way to a solid ..

Hmm. Out of curiosity, I tried some stitching, starting with the front wheel.

I could  succeed with the tire and the outer rim, but not with the spokes.

If stitching them is done in 2016 or 2017, the message pops up as shown in the screenshot. You can search in window for bad spots, and they are zoomed in. But no highlighting is done, where the bad edges are placed.

Testing this in 2014 showed better results, see picture. Repairing was easier then.

I'll search IdeaStation for a "Bring-back-old-behavior" wish.

Later:

Here's a start. Deleting the faces with gaps and applying new boundary patches in 2014 CE (Construction environment) was no big deal. Searching that in 2017 would be painful instead.

You can move on step-by-step through the existing surfaces with trimming, cutting, patching, stitching and re-combining.

Smiley Wink Maybe I'll do some more - maybe not

Thank you very much! I think I may just have to be more patient and go through it.

That feature from 2014 would definitely be useful! I have voted to bring back the feature.

Thanks for kudos.

I'll attach an intermediate file. But fine-tuning still is a challenge. Attached IPT is 2014 format.
