STEP File import Error

Hi all,

 

I have recently (this week) started seeing import errors when importing step files.  The process is as follows?

 

Select either the Open folder icon on the QA tool bar or "OPEN" on the Home screen.

Open Dialog box opens, change file type to STEP Files.

Select File to open.

Get this error...

Once this error occurs, I can no longer open a file (not even a project file!)  I have to shut down Inventor and restart.

I went back and tried to import files that I have successfully imported int he past and have the same problem so it is not the files that are the issue.

 

HOWEVER, if I browse to the file in Windows and select open with Inventor, a new Inventor window opens and it imports fine.

 I just did two updates.  Not sure that is the issue, but I have not had this problem until very recently.

 

Is this a new bug?

@steven.coxVCM6J can you send me the file, I can open in Moi and send you back a different format? is a part or a large assembly?

Chris,

 

Thanks but I have it imported, just not with the normal work flow.  This error happens on any STEP or SAT file.

Hi Steven,

 

It sounds that the translator related dlls were not loaded when they were supposed to. Or, they were blocked for some reason. Please try the following and see if it helps.

Close Inventor and go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables -> create "DYNAMIC_LOAD_APPLETS" and set it to 0.

Restart Inventor. Does it work now?

Hi! Then it could be related to lack of Standard template. Try this. Go to Tools -> App Options -> File -> Configure Default Templates -> select the desirable standard and unit. Does it work now? If not, does it happen to any STEP file or only some STEP files?

That does not help either.

 

Please note that once I get the error, neither the Open file on the QA toolbar nor the Open on the Home screen will open ANY file.  It only causes the same error until I restart Inventor.

 

It appears to be any STEP or SAT file.
