By "connected" do you mean overlapping (solids)?
I am not sure what method you used to build this (maybe attach your IPT here) or which version of the software you used, but a "Spiral" is a named METHOD inside the "Coil" function, and spiral coils extend outwards from the starting radius, and not coiling upwards, for ex.
Anyways, here is one illustration below of how you might wish to make a simple spring, and it also shows how it will give you an error (at least in Inventor 2022) if you select a PITCH that is equal or lower than the spring wire's diameter. This ensures no overlapping solid:
