Split parts dependent on original part?

Anonymous

Hello,

I encountered a problem after splitting a part into multiple parts; it seems that the body split from the original part doesn't have its own features and is dependent on the original body. Is there a way to make the split part independent and to edit it separately from the original part?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum.

Can you post your part?  Sounds like you may have created a derived part.

Hi! You can simply use Copy Object command (nested in Modify section) to copy a solid to a brand new independent solid.

Many thanks!

Hi! To be more specific, here are the workflows making an independent solid within the same part or in a new part.

Within the same part:

Go to 3D Model tab -> Modify section -> click on the down arrow -> Copy Object -> select output type to Solid -> pick an existing solid -> Ok,

The new solid will not be associative to the existing solid.

In a new part:

Option 1: Start a new assembly. Place the existing part in the assembly. Insert a new part and edit it in place. Follow above instruction.

Option 2: Start a new part. Go to 3D Model tab -> Derive -> pick an existing part -> make sure the solid is included -> Ok. The solid from the existing part will be derived to the new part. To make it independent, right-click on the Derive node -> Break link. Or, you could select Suppress link to temporarily suppress the link between the two parts. If somehow you change your mind and you want to revive the link, you can unsuppress it accordingly.

Option 3: Simply save the part as a different part. Delete the unwanted solids.

Many thanks!
