Smooth connection of two solid body parts

Hello,

Im trying to figuer out a way to make a smooth overlay between two parts of a solid body.

I have searched for a similar answer and tried some approaches (fe. patch + loft) but non of them worked mainly failed because I got an error when trying to set tangencies.

Would anyone know a solution?

Hi! Like JD said, please attach the file here. Either Boundary Patch or Loft should work. I suspect you may not set up the boundary or section properly, which led to Boolean failure. Without seeing the file, it is impossible to comment further.

Many thanks!

IMO, with the existing shapes no good solution is possible.

For a good transitional surface, the change in transition angle is too much. It can be done with straight transition, not looking very good.

But chances are much worse at all for tangential transitions.

Hi! This is the easiest solution I can find (see attached).

Many thanks!

By splitting the faces you're trying to join, you can define your own edge curves that shape the patch. Here I just used a quick line with tangent arcs; a spline might better let you set a contour you're happy with in the problem areas. Adjusting the tangency weights of the boundary patches will also help smooth out the overall shape. You may want to split the same faces along the other axis and draw in another two edges, depending on exactly what shape you're looking for.

Best of luck.
