Smart text not working in Inventor 2017.dwg

I am trying to create my own .dwg drawing template, that updates information from iproperties, drawing properties, model etc.

I have tried editing the standard ISO title block as well as creating my own from scratch, however no matter what I do it will not populate the text block with the information I want.

For example I tried to change the '<CHECKED BY>' to Properties-Model <MATERIAL> and nothing changes at all, is there something else I need to do to get it to change?

Any help is greatly appreciated

I think you need to define the exact steps you are taking as there is likely one small step you are missing that is causing these problems..

Maybe use screencast to record your steps so we can see where you went wrong..

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast

Its a good free screen recorder..

Are you sure you are opening the correct template file and making the changes there?

In general though (at a basic level)

start a new drawing, edit the title block definition, change the property then place a base view from a model that has the proper information filled out.. That titleblock should update properly..

IF you can get that working then we can see where you went off the track with the full/complete process..

Hi mcgyvr,

I had added a screencast to the post not sure why it isn't showing up, I checked that it was able to preview before posting. Should hopefully be embedded now.

If I enter the edit text box, highlight the text then change it to Drawing - Model then the attribute to Material from the dropdown menu, I would expect the text to change to '<MATERIAL>' which it doesn't do.

Thank you for the swift response and any help you can offer

Ok.. Thats the problem.. so simple to spot with a screencast.. Thanks for taking the time to do that..

You are making the selection but not actually adding that selection to the text area.. You need to hit the button 2 to the right of the material dropdown to "push" that value down to replace the other text..

Press this button.. circled in red..

Hi mcgyvr,

Thank you that has worked a treat, I could have been stuck on that for hours otherwise.

I shall make sure any issues I have from now on, I use screencast when uploading.
