Slow rotating and glitchy views

I've been having issues with inventor for the last half a year or so. I think I probably need a new graphics card but I would like to see what other people think. It started off a while back when ever now and then both of my screens would go black and then they would both come back on and then i would get a message in the inventor window that would say "graphics driver stopped responding. Inventor will now exit. If you encounter this problem frequently, please check the ...... " It would only happen every so often when i hadn't restarted my computer in a week or two. But over time this has happened more and more often to the point if i don't restart my computer every couple of days now it will slow down and lag then do this. Now it has gotten to the point where when i open up files i was able to open up 2 or 3 weeks ago now are slow and glitch, when i rotate them half the parts disappear in tell i stop and then they show back up. The computer is probably 4 or 5 years old and has been used 40+ hours a week its whole life so i'm sure its getting worn out. I've never had any issue with it besides what i stated above. I have also tried all of the settings in the Applications options to see if that would help and it doesn't. Like I said I think the graphics card has finally just taken a dump I just want to make sure before i spend the money buying a new one or buying a whole new computer.

Thanks for the descriptive problem..  Smiley Wink

But what Inventor version is this?  What updates have you applied?  Operating system?  And I almost forgot..  Video card model and driver version?

Update #2:  Boy I must've fired my brain today and not thinking...  Also you machine specs.   CPU, ram and etc..

Hi! Like Mark indicated already, it is hard to tell where the problem is without looking at specifics. Please go to Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> Diagnostics -> copy and paste to a text file. Post it here or send it to me directly ([email protected]). Maybe the machine is running on the integrated graphics card instead of dedicated one.

In the meantime, you can also try selecting Conservative mode in the same dialog to see if it works better.

Many thanks!

Are you getting good cooling on the card - when was the last time that you removed the cover and evicted the dust bunnies?

Also, if you are using a 3D Connexion device - when was the last time that you clicked Calibrate?

Almost 10 years after original post and this problem still exist (got a new high-end workstation on work with dedicated CAD nVidia GPU).

Did the calibrate on 3D Connexion device (which I did only once when installed) and flickering + stuttering is not completely gone, but it is much much better.

Thanks!

Hi! Did you try changing the following option? Go to Tools -> App Options -> Display -> expand the dialog -> uncheck "Use nearest model point for Orbit" option.

Many thanks!

I tried it today, but cannot confirm that there is any difference in performance. Significant improvement was the calibration of 3D connexion device.

Anyway, with this two suggestions Inventor works much better.

Thanks for both!
