SKETCH OFFSET SELECTION

Hi all,

Forgive me if there is already a way to do this as I simply can't find it.

Say I draw a sketch on the face of a rectangle. I project all four edges as a reference and I need them for export for location.

I want to offset the sketch but do not want the whole entire rectangle. Is there any way to select the lines you want to offset without deleting the others just to re-project later?

picture attached

1. projected face then offset. forces entire profile to be offset.

2. projected one line. offset. then project the three remaining edges.

note: my profile is not nearly this simple so it becomes a pain to re-project every since line segement, arc, etc.

If i re-project the face i will have overlapping lines which doesn't help for CNC machining , waterjet programs, etc

basically i want to cut out a lot of extra steps with a possible shift click to offset specific lines that i would like to

thanks in advance

-Joe

edit:

the option exists and this is not a new idea.

Hi @Anonymous. Whenever you're not sure if Inventor can do something or not, please post a question in the Inventor Forum first to have a discussion and find out for sure what Inventor is and isn't capable of. That way you can post an educated, specific request for something that Inventor is indeed lacking.

In this case, Inventor is in fact already capable of exactly what you need. After selecting the "Offset" command, simply right-click and UN-check "Loop Select". You can then select only the edges you want to offset. Then, right-click and click Continue, and then enter and offset value.

No problem! Glad you found it.

No, you can't delete posts, but I'm tagging the @Discussion_Admin so hopefully they can move this thread over to the Inventor forum where it can help other people with the same question.

Best of luck!
