Sketch Cannot Finish

Hello Inventor Community,

I am trying to make a sheet metal extrusion from a sketch (See attached) but somehow the error I am getting says : Part3: Errors occurredInventor problem.PNG during the update. When I expand it says: Extrusion1: Could not build this Extrusion. When I expand this it says, a profile loop could not be repaired after sketch geometry was edited or deleted. Use Edit feature to select the profile.

What could I be doing wrong?  The profile itself took me about an hour to trace and would be disappointing to start from scratch again.

Hi @Anonymous,

You can always try Diagnosing the sketch using Sketch Doctor. Inventor will show you what's wrong with your sketch.

Open the sketch> right click>Sketch Doctor>Diagnose Sketch and Inventor will show you open loops, overlapping curves, and all. In most cases, it will be one of these errors which is not letting you Extrude

Hi! After extruding the profile, what you are trying to do? Print it? This kind of artistic object is hard to build in Inventor since Inventor is a precise modeler. Every piece of geometry has to carry function and dimensions. I don't believe the deer profile in this case requires accuracy (up to 0.00001mm). There should be better tools to create such shape.

Many thanks!

My end goal is to CNC machine it. so after extrusion I will add a few features then make a DXF for laser cutting.

Hi JD, I realized that I cannot save a sketch so I have attached the original email that I am trying to recreate for CNC.

 Please see attached.
