Simplified threads in drawing views.

Hi!

I have imported some screws from McMaster- Carr, but they are showing as a detailed thread instead of a simplified thread on my drawings. The threads I created myself are simplified, but I can't figure out how to do the same for the imported models. The part itself shows as an extrusion in the browser tree, so I cannot edit the thread feature.  I've attached the McMaster Carr file I'm working with and a screenshot of my sub assembly. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Well, that fastener  has a detail modeled thread.

If it isn't in the Content Center, then I would remodel from scratch rather than use the McMaster-Carr part.

Thank you! I was afraid of that. I'll talk to my professor and see how to proceed as he wanted us to import the models. My other thought was to suppress the actual part and put a sketch of what I need on top, but I didn't think that was the best solution.

Here you go (Inventor 2021 format).  As you can see, it is a very simple Delete Face w/Heal removing the minor diameter and two faces of the thread.  Inventor patches it up nicely.  You can even go one step further and copy to the Construction Environment, delete the original Cut-Extrude12 and Delete Face features, then Copy Object from the Construction Environment back to a solid body.

Either way, you can now add the thread as an Inventor feature.

I still have no idea why McMaster-Carr does this.  All those helical surfaces are a significant waste of computing power, and users are very unlikely to need to 3D print fasteners!
