simplified parts for use in E3

Hi Guys,

Currently in our company there are 2 seats available for autodesk inventor. Which for the most part are fully occupied doing all the mechanical design we need for our products. An issue we have been having is in the electrical department. They have a whole team of guys who are using E3 to make all the electrical drawings, panel layouts etc.. There is a growing need to bring 3d models of vendor supplied parts into the E3 environment to be used in certain layouts. Some times the geometry is too dense and complicated for E3 to import it.

They have started to ask if there is a a software we can use that is not dependent on the simplify functions inside inventor.

My question is: Is there a software that is good at this type of thing? Rhino is one of the options somebody mentioned. Is this an option? Any input on what would make the process as easy as possible I would be very grateful. I am aware most likely there is no easy solution. Especially on models that have complicated/bad geometry. Am interested what other workflow/options there are available.

We have been seeing more and more use of Revit as an aggregator of electrical + mechanical data, when it comes to site installations and larger facilities. You haven't specified your type of products and the industry your company is in for us to give a solid recommendation, but if the use of those models is mostly for final visualization and analysis, perhaps Navisworks can help with that.
I believe Rhino is good for editing geometry and could possibly help simplify the components, but it would consume more time than Inventor just for lacking the capability to automate (fast tools) and batch-simplify (multiple) components.
