Simple Pendulum Simulation

I can’t seem to figure out what joint to use and how to set up friction for a pendulum simulation. I would appreciate it is someone would look at my .iam. I have a revolution joint automatically made that works but the pendulum never stops swinging.

First thing I notice is no dimensions on many of your sketches?

Thanks,

If you have time I would like to understand what your point is about not having dimensions on all of my parts.

Also; It's nice to know that my Pack N Go worked. I wasn't sure exactly how to do that. I just pasted the files that showed up on my desktop into the Workspaces folder & zipped it up  and hoped that was correct.

The Origin Workplanes and Center Point can be used to great advantage in Dynamic Simulation (and in modeling and assembly in general).

It would not have taken any more time or effort to click on the origin than to click in space.

Same story on this one.

Origin is not at logical location (which would help in assembly).

I added the missing dimensions.

None of the dimensions aer measurable on the shop floor, therefore cannot be inspected and are not manufacturable.

Six underdefined sketches and adaptive to boot?

Not only are you missing dimensions, but also vertical and horizontal constraints.

Inventor should be doing this work for you in the background?

I have never seen any evidence that undisciplined modeling is faster or better in any way.

Again, Inventor should be doing most of this for you - less work, better quality, fewer problems, get lazy!

You might have a lot of bad habits to break after 7 yrs.  Read the attached document.

Thanks,

I defintely get your point regarding dimensions to manfacture but this was just a simple test of the physics engine of the Dynamic Simulation application. I did not know that the Center Point being in the proper location in a sketch would benefit dynamic simulation so thanks for that detail as well. I have a much more eloborate physics test simulation assembled that I sure wish I would have drawn out all the parts using the Center Point. I may attempt to edit all the moving part file sketches now.

On a different subject; I did upload an .iam recently and I never heard back from anyone if they found any issues with the file. It was hinted at that my old beat up computer probably needs replacing and that is correct but this .iam is the only file I experience with this memory issue where the yellow memory warning bar is on. Can you take a look at that? Please. 🙂

1. I get those who want to argue with me, but my evidence indicates that it is simply faster to do correctly than haphazardly.

2. Url of the thread?

I know this is kind of different but I'm not an engineer and only took an into course to get the general idea.  Now that I have a basic handle on things; I would really benefit from another course however that's not happening any time soon.

I did not know that adaptive sketches were a bad habit. I did not even know that you could change that. I did know to change sub assemblies out of the adaptive mode.

Thanks for the details with the screen shots. I have some idea now of what you were getting at.

In the future I would like to know if you would look at my more eloborate simulation. It does work and I think I have the basic friction parameters within reason. I don't have an issue with it but I really need an expert to review it at some future time if that is possible. (?)

I will read the document. Thanks I almost missed that point.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with adaptive sketches - when used correctly.

But when there isn't a strong foundation of basic sketching techniques - using adaptivity is like building a house of cards on top of an earthquake fault.  Only a matter of time till it all falls down....

There are some videos here that cover the same topics, but they were created with later version.

The pdf is closer to your version.
