Sheet metal different than flat pattern

Good Afternoon

Have you ever seen something so strange in the inventor?

I made a simple guide for corks that is updated according to the diameter.

In the first version it was 3 slots to fit, but to make it easier to adjust, I change the part to 2 Slots in the second update, until here everything is normal in a working day.

What happened was that I send this new sheet metal to produced, the support was left with 2 slots and the guide sheet metal with 3, not been updated.

The flat pattern was out of date and had not been updated.

The lightning bolt icon (local update required) was active.

Hi! There might be a bit of thickness confusion. Instead of using a sheet metal rule to drive the thickness in the derive part, you override the thickness. I think it is better to use a sheet metal rule to drive the thickness (1.0mm).

The flat pattern does seem disconnected from the folded body, which is wrong. You may need to delete the flat pattern and recreate it. It will works.

If you find a way to reproduce the behavior from scratch, please let us know asap. It is a bug.

Many thanks!

Edgaralves84,

What version of Inventor are you experiencing this on? We first experienced this in Inventor 2019 and have been told that they are aware and working on the issue. I can't recall at this time if the solution was to upgrade but when I have come across these files, I open them on my test machine and see they same thing in Inventor 2020.

Aside from the geomtry issue, another problem is that no warnings are provided, so unless you inspect every single flat pattern and compare it with the folded model you may run into problems in production. That being said, it is rare and the time to inspect each flat pattern would most likely outweigh the gains from catching a part and fixing it. Of course your experience may be different depending on qty's.

Regards,

Tom
