Sheet metal bend with score/etch

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am looking at creating a part to route. I have both horz and vert bends going on. I am looking to score/undercut/etch the back sides on 2 bends to make them sharper corners. I have not been able to find a meathod that would work with the two different thicknesses to flatten out. Its .125" material being reduced to .063" at just 2 bends. Any ideas?

I hope - the attached model should give you some direction. IV2020 file format.

Cheers,

I hope I am understanding your question.  I created a .125" sheet metal part.  I placed a flange on one end and a fold on the other just to be different.  I then used the unfold command on each in turn, sketch the area to "etch" on the backside of each bend and then extrude cut this area by .0625".  I then went back and tightened the bend radius for each bend.  Last I created the flat pattern to show it will create it for routing.  Model is attached.  Inventor 2021 format

Hi! I think I know the request. You would like to alter the bend zone thickness (groove). Inventor assumes a sheet metal part to have uniform thickness. When the bend zones have inconsistent thickness, the flat pattern may fail.

A workflow that I developed a while back can help. In your case, each part will probably need two ipt files.

One represents the folded mode without altered thickness. Create the flat pattern in the part and then alter bend zones in the flat pattern mode. The other part is a derived part of the first part. Then alter the bend zones in the folded mode. So you have two ipt files describing the design: the first one for flat pattern; the second one for folded body.

Many thanks!
