Shared Views - Update Model w/o creating new view? Model "associative" ?

I can't seem to find any clarification in the documentation or in any threads here on the forum.

Is there a way to create a Shared View from an Inventor model, and then "update" the model without losing the existing comments?  It'd be nice to keep the same link, update the model, and still have the old comments available for viewing.  Is this just not designed to work that way?

Instead, the only way I can find to make this work is by creating a new Shared View from the same Inventor model.  This makes it entirely standalone - the Shared View model is a 'dead' snapshot in time.  If I update the assembly model with basic changes (edit constraints, delete a component) it appears that the file name remains the same, the comments persist on the original, but an entirely new Design View is created.

Maybe this is by design - hence the question.  I'm assessing this new (to me) tool for a couple of use-cases I have here.

Maybe to clarify, I can explain the hopeful end goal:

I'd like to be able to use a Shared View of the Inventor model (assemblies) to communicate/collaborate with others in-house who do not have Inventor (they only use Autocad) who can then markup the Shared View with whatever comments and notes they wish to take.

However, one of the improvements I'm seeking is to replace working from a saved PDF (of an IDW) because the PDF is a 'dead' document not sync'd to whatever changes happen in Inventor/Vault [Basic] - if the Shared View model can be updated or sync'd to the Inventor model, that'd be just peachy keen.  This would prevent the collaborators from looking at old versions and possibly making mistakes due to obsolete reference data.

If not, oh well, I'll have to look elsewhere.

Hi Josh,

Indeed, the link between the model and the shared view is more like one way. Also, it is pushed from Inventor to the Shared View. The user has to do it manually. Each push creates a new link.

I guess you would like to have one shared view but it is synced to the model on a regular basis. Regardless, the "syncing" will not be real time. There is always a delay.

I am wondering if you could leverage Fusion Team and Fusion 360 to achieve similar behavior. First, you need to install Desktop Connector. Then you store your Inventor files in Fusion Team (Team hub). The user can use Fusion 360 to view the Inventor file and comment on it. Whenever there is change to the Inventor file, Fusion 360 can update it.

Many thanks!

Thanks for the confirmation.

It appears shared views are indeed not ideal.
