I don't think it's been mentioned in the NG yet. For those that haven't
realized it you can now delete a shared sketch. Yahoo!

The bad news is that you also have to delete the original sketch as well in
order to delete the shared sketch. I see some logic in that though.

I don't, but as you know its just a copy and will not harm just to forget
about it.

I never understood why this bothered some people so much. Simply turn off
visibility and it's basically gone.

Just call me a "neat freak" but I like my models to be clean. No suppressed features (after design), no unused parameters, no unused work features, etc...

I guess mine is a lonely world.

You could always delete a shared sketch, you just couldn't unshare it. And
you still cant.

Well paint me embarrased you're right. The only reason it deleted was because it wasn't referenced anymore when I thought it was. Disappointment becomes enthusiasm returns to disappointment joined with some embarrasement to give it a new flavor. Thus my life.

Actually they can be unshared.

If you delete all the features using the sketch, the little hand will
disappear from the sketch's icon.
Now create a new feature and the sketch will be consumed. But be sure to
move the sketch to the
bottom of the browser first; otherwise it will automatically become shared
again.

I don't think it is a copy, it is just exposed and reusable.  If it was a
copy then you would be able to add to the copy without affecting the original
similar to the way derived sketches work (which is very nice).

Ok so its a copy which is associated at sketch
level only and can not be broken, but can be used to create different and
independent extrusions/whatever. So its not a copy its "exposed and reusable"
anyone got a better description? Associated probably not the correct word
either. The English language words to be taken in context of their meaning
and where they are placed with the other words used to place them and their
meaning and context. My English was always poor :^)

    I think you could accurately say
that the top sketch, under the browser, is the master and the sketch under the
feature is the share. I think IV promotes them in the database tree when they
are shared and the feature is associated as slave to the master. Once
shared, I doubt that the one shown under the feature, even exists in the
database. It probably only pops into the browser so my dim wit can keep
track of what I'm doing.

Something else I just noticed with a shared sketch, Delete a feature created with a shared sketch,
and the sketch is no longer shared. You cannot now re-share this sketch until it has been consumed
by another feature. Don't know the use of this, but just an observation.

Inventor has a legacy bug in pre-R6 releases. The bug was -- The Delete
Features command does not "unshare" a sketch that becomes unconsumed. So
the sketch is left with the "shared" flag even though it's not actually
shared. I fixed this bug in R6, so this bogus "shared" flag won't be
created in R6+ models.

However, you still cannot "unshare" those bogusly shared sketches created in
a pre-R6 release. While it doesn't really hurt (as Sean said above), it
might annoy a little to some neat users like MechMan . I'm thinking
about adding an "Unshare" command only available for unconsumed sketches
with the "shared" flag. What do you think?
