shaded view on print are shown wrong

Hi

We have 2 Inventor-users(ot of 68) that are experiencing some odd print-out behavior from Inventor.

When printing drawings containing shaded views, the shading is shown awkwardly. see pic.

This is a periodic error and after a restart of Inventor - everything is ok again.

problem occurs og both ordinary print and print/export to pdf.

What is causing this behavior and how do we stop it from happening?

/Carsten

With a drawing open (and do this for the template they are using also and save it) Tools...document settings..drawing tab... set Use Bitmap to "Offline Only"

Hi! Does this behavior happen to the actual print or you see it on the screen in Inventor? Could you try setting Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> Conservative mode and restart Inventor? I suspect it can be hardware related but I am not sure. Also you may want to update the graphics driver for those machines.

Many thanks!

Yeah looking at it again it does seem to be more than the normal "Offline Only- Bitmap" issue that many experience..

Hi Guys

It is on the print only, never on the screen - well, only when it is pdf-export Smiley Wink

It can't be the Document settings option, because it prints fine on other computers.

I'll have a look on the graphics drivers and see if that's the bug.

Funny thing that is fine after a restart of Inventor...

I have the same issue.  It doesn't matter what printer I use, it happens when I print to a PDF.  I tried conservative mode and a restart with no change.

So I'll assume you have an adobe virtual printer right?

If so go to its "printing preferences" and set it to "high quality print"  as shown..

Did that help?

Update: It also happens when I print to a Xerox plotter 6204 Wide Format.  Is there a list of supported plotters?  I get the same problem with PDF's - I am have the full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro and use it to create PDF's.

If I export to a PDF it works fine, but if I try to plot to a PDF it fails.  What are the differences between export to a PDF and plotting to a PDF?  What controls the export settings?

Plotting to PDF using Adobe Acrobat, you will need to set the quality to High instead of Standard (going by memory here).  With the default quality setting, you will get banding in shaded views.

Edit: sorry, I didn't read the previous messages in this thread before replying.  @mcgyvr gave you the settings needed for printing/plotting using Adobe's virtual printer; are there similar settings for the Xerox plotter?

Thanks for responding.  Even with high quality, I still get issues:

Using the highest settings, the Plotter got better, but not right.  I still have the shade offset from the part edge lines.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm really not seeing a problem there (except for the few white lines that look like sections of the shaded are offset a bit..).. Is that what you are talking about?

Did you try the other setting I first talked about (use bitmap only)?

Also what version of Inventor are you using and have you ensured its fully up to date with all updates?

Also have you tried updating your graphics card driver to the latest version?

Also what version of Adobe are you using?

@mcgyvr thanks for the reply.  I had already switched to bitmap offline only.

The white lines are the issue on the PDF.

My video card has an update, ill try that.  Would the video card have any impact on the plot?

I have the latest plotter drivers.

Updated video card drivers and nothing.  Still get crazy lines across the shaded view.
