Set New Template as Default

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi ,

I hope this is an easy one. I started a new drawing, created a new border and a new titleblock. I saved this drawing as a new template. All im trying to do is be able to access this template by simply opening a new drawing from the "my home" page. There is probably a simple selection box somewhere in the options that im just not seeing but frankly im sick of looking.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Sandro

Witch version do you use.

Within Inventor 2016 you can hit this arrow.

Flat Pattern.jpg

Then you see your template.

If you want to have this template as default you have to name it Standard.

If you are using Inventor 2016 you need to click the Advanced area on the My Home screen.  If you want the Drawing you created to be the default when you click on "Drawing" then you need to name it Standard.idw or dwg depending on your defaults and it will grab it.  That option you will place it at the root of your template directory instead of a subfolder.

Assumptions...

You saved as Template and placed it into the directory Inventor's IPJ or Applicaiton Options File Tab is looking.

Sounds like you gave it a name other than "Standard" (.idw or .dwg - regarding which file type might be an issue too, explained latter on) which would make sense if you did. Without testing this idea, I suspect what you will want to do is rename your existing "Standard" template file to say "Standard-bak" and then name your newly created template as "Standard". Regarding which file type, a recent post I read this morning seems to indicate the ".dwg" file type is now possibly the new Drawing template. Previously it was ".idw". You may have to explore this by trying both file formats. But the point here is, the Home page (or at least the Quick New buttons) usually point to one of the files that are simply named "Standard.(file_type)". So try renaming any existing "Standard" template drawing files and then name you new one as "Standard" and try both, the .dwg and .idw. HTH.

sorry for repeated info. When I started typing this reply, there were no replies to your question yet. That's what happens when you get sidetracked and come back to this latter.

Thanks everyone. I think ive got this figured out!

I went into the "user" "public documents" and renamed my template to Standard.

However, i deleted the old Standard file in order to rename my new template instead of just renaming the old standard file. I really hope I didnt just screw myself!!!

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2015\Templates.Base Adjust for your versions location, but there appears to be backup files there.
