Screencast end of life notice

I looked at my dashboard this morning and saw this notice that as of Jan. 31, 2023, Screencast will be retired. What the crap!!

Screencast was great for capturing what you needed to show someone.  I just can't believe they are taking away something that has helped so many people...... but then again it does not surprise me one bit.

I've been using a screen-to-GIF app that works pretty good for short videos. Guess I will be using more of that.

Windows 10 has a built in screen recorder, just hit Windows+Alt+R and it starts recording. It doesn't save as a GIF though.

I agree @karthur1. Disappointing!!  (Although I never liked that you couldn't edit out your mistakes in Screencast.  And Windows+Alt+R records the entire screen which makes for huge video files.)

I used to use "Jing" - but with Adobe dumping Flash animation, TechSmith have come up with a new free solution - see TechSmith Capture (Formerly Jing) | TechSmith

You can edit out mistakes in Screencast. 
Can’t insert corrections, but you can cut.

I used Jing before they discontinued it.... then started using SC.  I downloaded the TechSmith Capture.  It does capture audio and video which is nice. The one thing I didn't like was there is no way to delete out portions of the video (no editing capabilities).

Its better than the Windows capture for sure.

Well, I learned something about Screencast thank you @JDMather  - but I guess I'll never get to test it!

So we need something like TechSmith's Capture with some minor edit capabilities (cut & splice would do for me) but without the price tag of TechSmith's Camtasia.  Hopefully, someone knows of such a product?
