Saving STP File as .iam file

Hope you all are haveing a great day so far...

I have an stp file I am trying to import and save as an iam file. I can open and save the individule files as ipt files in the workspace folder from the converted iam file. It won't allow me to save the iam file (the converted stp file) I get an error message "The system cannot find the path specified.

The database in W:\Projects\Reyco\Imported Components\21B CAST

                                                                                                             \68237_08757-01.ipt could not be saved

and a list folowing with all the ipt files in the converted iam file listed following.

I've tried adding the paths to the "Frequently Used Subfolders" with no effect. If anyone could tell me how to fix this, I would really appreciate the help. In any case, hope all have a great day.

Frank,

Make sure you look at the import options to make sure the box "Import assembly as a part "is not checked.

Scott,

I have been just opening the stp file with Inventor without importing it. I will try the import process and see if that clears up the problem.

 Thanks for you help.

Hi frank,

If you open 68237_08757-01.ipt seperately in Inventor and try to save it, it works, the problem is occured only when saving the assembly, right ? What's your Inventor version ? If possible can you send the STEP file to me via Hongyuan.Li@autodesk.com for further research ?

Kevin & Scott,

I had been just "opening" the stp files as I got them from Vendors without looking at the import options. Hadn't really encountered any problems before this one. So I started over with this file and looked at the import optioins as Scott suggested and was able to open and save all the part and assembly files after following Scotts suggestions. Thank you Scott! The only reason I go through the process of opening and saving the parts and assemblies from a stp file is to assign proper materials and appearence to the parts. By assigning the proper materials I get accurate weights (very important to know with our application) and I like my models to look realistic. Most of the stp files I recieve have all of that information stripped out. I've asked for native files so I can try the Inventor 2016 "Any CAD" feature. Most vendors have a policey of stp files only so I'm still waiting to try out that feature. Thank you again for your time and help, it makes mt job so much easier.
