Save As AutoCAD gives me a ZIP file!?!?

OK I have a weird thing going on. I create a drawing in Inventor Pro 2017 and Save As Copy to create an AutoCAD file. I have to this because our customer(U.S.Army) mandates we deliver editable AutoCAD drawing. Anyway when I save the drawing as an AutoCAD file and then go to the folder to open the file all I have is a ZIP file with the name of the drawing I wanted. I know this is the file I saved from Inventor because of the date and time n the file.

Any suggestions?

One thing I found. If I chose "OPTIONS" on the File Save As dialog box and cycle through it I get a DWG file. I would think I should be able to get a DWG file without having to go through the options each time.

Yeah that does sound odd.

I don't have my Inventor 2017 running at the moment but I've never had a case where save copy as "AutoCAD drawing" created zipped files.  At the same time I don't remember that being a new function is 2017 either.   I can only suggest creating an Autodesk Screencast (link is in my signature) showing the steps and the results.  I can't check my 2017 version at the moment to confirm this but maybe someone else can.

before you press save hit the "options" button.

On the first screen if you have "pack and go" checked it will zip the file..

Get everything how you want and on the second screen of the options there is a button to save configuration.. Save it (without pack and go checked) and you should be good to go and it "should" default to that saved configuration each time now..

What I found in 2017 is that you have to choose Save As a Copy then select the AutoCAD format. Be sure you go through the Options in the Save As dialog box or you won't get the DWG file.

Tim be sure you press the next button and not just the Finish button. At least that is what I found to work.
