sat files to step files using Task Scheduler

I have been asked to send a customer 96 models. These models exist in our system as .sat files, but the sat files just come out as text files (?? the customer informs me).

So, I wish to convert the sat files into step files, preferably using Task Scheduler. I tried to do this using the export function but got the following error:

The output type is incorrect

Is there a way to convert the files? preferably in one easy step?

Have you actually opened any of the .SAT files and make sure they are correct...

Smiley Very Happy  sat stands for Save As Text

Why did they request *.sat if they don't know what a *.sat (ACIS) file is?

I assume you have the ipt files.

Save the ipt files as STEP files.

Otherwise I think you will have to open each *.sat, save as *.ipt and then save as STEP.

......sat stands for Save As Text - d'oh. never worked with them before, so now i know.

I guess IV just converts them into 3D models.

I do not have the ipt files, so it looks like I will just have to o what you say - open each one and save as step.

is there a way to automate this process?

Don't think so.. Maybe a batch type file convertor online but Inventor won't

Test bonus question:  What does ACIS stand for?

Bonus question 2:  Who owns ACIS kernel?

Bonus question 3: Who owns them?

Hi,

I think the reason you saw that failure was because Inventor was importing some of the sat files as Assembly types and subsequently wanted to save them as assembly (.iam) but you probably had the output type set as "*.ipt" which would have caused that error message.

If that is the case then you can just go into the options abd make a simple change to the import options, such that these files are imported as multi-body parts instead (at 33 seconds into the video below, that is exactly what i did).

Hope it helps,

Thanks
