RVT Export Always Includes Surface Bodies

Hi Everyone!

I'm facing an issue with the RVT Export feature in Autodesk Inventor 2026 where it consistently exports Surface Bodies and Surfaces to my Revit file, even though I don't need them.

What I've tried:

  • Manually turning off visibility of surface bodies/surfaces in the browser.

  • Creating a new ViewRep with those surfaces explicitly turned off/not visible.

  • Exporting from different levels (top-level assembly and subassemblies).

Has anyone encountered this? Any workarounds, settings I'm missing, or known bugs in 2026? Appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

Edit:

The surfaces I want to hide in the RVT are derived part features, contained in the parts and has dependent features, so suppressing wouldn't work.

Hi @fodor_aron, if you're still encountering the issue, would you mind attaching the simplest version of the file here or send it to me in a direct message so the team can investigate it further? Thanks in advance!

Best,

Rena

To export to RVT you have to go through Simplify, have you tried excluding them there?

@SharkDesign

That is true, however there is no option to filter out surface bodies. PLease see attahced image of my simplified scene with one solid and one surface extrusion.

@rena_andrews

I attached a simplified scene from Inventor 2026. My target is Revit 2024.

Thank you all!

Exclude components will get rid of surface parts, but no you cannot specifically get rid of any body - solid or surface, by using simplify.

Turning off visibility works for me, although I didn't export to RVT because I don't have revit.
Maybe try simplify to Inventor part and then export that to RVT.

@SharkDesign

Thank you for the quick reply.

Turning off surface body visibility and using RVT Export still includes the hidden body in the rvt file, no matter what are set in the simplification dialog.

However if I

  1. create a simplified IPT from my assembly
  2. turn off surface body visbility inside the simplified IPT
  3. put that simplified IPT into a container assembly
  4. run RVT Export
  5. RVT doesnt icnclude the hidden surface bodies -> success

However with this method I am loosing the ability to export Each Top Level Component which would be crucial for my original use case.

This sounds like a bug, they should work exactly the same.

You could also try not entering the AEC environment and doing the RVT export direct from the file menu. The AEC environment essentially runs a copy of the simplify command so it might not be a bug in the main code. Either way, someone from Autodesk needs to look at it.

Hi @fodor_aron, apologies for the late reply! I was on sick leave much of last week. Thank you for sharing the files, I also see the issue and agree that it should have the same behavior as the Assembly Simplify option and appears to be a defect. I've created the defect [INVGEN-90327] to investigate and fix the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience caused here, if the team discovers a workaround where you can still use the full workflow I'll update it here in the meantime. Thank you very much for reporting the issue to us!

Best,

Rena
