Request to know Top 3 Reasons for Inventor 2018 Crashes

Greetings fellow Inventor Users (and Developers),

I work for a rather large company and have been using Inventor for the last 5 years. Most of the time it is working splendid, but once in a while my fellow colleagues (and myself) gets a Crash of the inventor software, showing the window where you can send a report of what happened etc (no picture, sorry).

Due to these crashes my bosses have asked me to try to solve this matter permanently and therefor I would like to request, if possible, a list of the top known reasons for why such a crash would occur. 

I know that you will probably want to know what we are doing before the crash occurred but it is hard to specify since I´ve seen quite a lot of different states from working with HUGE assemblies (40 000+ files) down to having a crash while opening a drawing containing 4-5 minor components.


All in all, I would appreciate if someone could provide me with a list of "known issues" that causes crashes.

My top reasons I see daily ( not in order)

 

1) Inventor file corrupt / corrupting

2) PC doesn't meet required specs or are at the min but users work in LARGE files / assemblies

3) Updates missing for either Windows or Autodesk Inventor

4) Network connection issues

5) Windows Profile 

6) Customization causing conflict

For me there is almost a 100% covariance between crashes and broken constraints. 

 

IV user since 2007.

Hi! When Inventor crashed, did you ask users to submit the crash reports? If yes, please send me an email (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to take a look at the most recently submitted reports from your domain to understand the crashes better.

Please make sure you have installed the applicable updates (2018.3 update followed by 2018.3.8 or later). If you use Vault, Vault updates need to be installed too. Also all critical Windows updates need to be installed and the graphics driver needs to be updated.
