Rendering tips.

Hi all,

I have been asked to produce rendered pictures of our jobs to insert in fair banners and leaflets.

Our jobs are mainly fabricated steel structures (please see the screenshots).

I have tried a quick render in Inventor Studio 2019:

The result is far from a realistic photo. I know I would have to try different settings, but because with renderings you have to wait sometimes long for seeing the result, I'm here to ask you if you have tips about the settings to render steel (mainly self colored or galv) structures that have proved to be successful.

I fear that because the views we need are overall (not detailed) views, and the flat surfaces, it  will not be easy to see reflections - and the result will be having bland colors.

Thank you.

I would suggest using "Realistic View" setting and "Raytracing" in the assembly environment instead of using Studio for a bit and see how that works for you..

For me that was a faster/easier process and I was able to get "decent" renderings..

Inventor is really not capable of producing quality "photo-realistic" renderings.. You would need to use something else like 3ds max or many other programs that are more focused on real renderings..

Inventor has some capabilities but its far from a high quality rendering tool..

As much as i agree with @mcgyvr , you shouldn't give up on Inventor just yet. I for one have produced some fantastic renders using Inventor Studio 2017. Some of the behaviors seem counter intuitive, but once you get the hang of it and build a collection of custom appearances it's not so bad.

First off i'd render that assembly in perspective (or if it's already in perspective, alter the distortion by holding CTRL+SHIFT and zooming in/out at the same time to give a perception of closeness), as it's looking pretty orthographic

I find it really comes down to creating custom textures [especially that bump mapping] for your parts in inventor and lighting. [still trying to create perfect cast bronze and red brass textures though]

Don't get me wrong.. We use Inventor for all of our rendering needs (company website/datasheets/customer feedback,etc...)

Its "good enough" for our needs..

Its just not capable of higher quality photo-realistic renderings that other programs can do..

So it really comes down to how demanding your needs are..

I have certainly done some renderings that the sales guys though was a picture of the real product (of course they are sales guys so.... Smiley Tongue )
