Renaming File Paths

Hi All,

What is the most efficient way to rename file paths? I put my part dimensions in the file path to keep my files organized. However, these dimensions change quite frequently. When opening an assembly containing the changed part dimensions, I have to reselect the file paths, which sometimes corrupts my constraints.

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks!

Your files will be better organized by changing file names instead of paths. Changing folder names is unsustainable and usually a bad practice.

If you use Vault you can rename folders without worrying because the file relationships are automatically updated to keep links resolved. Therefore, if you do have access to Vault Basic through your design package, I would strongly recommend trying to set up a Vault Basic just for yourself.

Thank you very much for the suggestion! I will look into Vault for this.

Hi! If you set up your Workspace properly in the project, you can change the path however you like under the Workspace. Inventor will be able to find the files (Library path likewise).

Many thanks!
