Renaming/Copying a Content Center Library .idcl file

Hi. Is there a reason why you should not rename a custom Content Center Library.idcl file?

Or a reason why you should not use copy and paste in File Explorer to copy the same custom library.idcl file to a shared server location?

Reason I ask: I have a project that is set up for the sole purpose of editing our custom.idcl library. This custom.idcl file exists only on my local drive. It was using the same name as the actual in-use custom.idcl library that sits on our server in a shared network location (we are not using the vault). I wanted to rename my local custom.idcl library to keep it different than the in-use library. So I renamed it (these are fake names for this example) OURcustom.idcl. I copied it to the same folder where the custom.idcl file sits (thus ensuring that it is backed up with our nightly back-ups).

Now I cannot get Inventor to see the renamed library on my local drive. Well, it sees it, but it appears with the old custom.idcl file name (which is not on my local drive). If I edit the library, I can see that it is editing the OURcustom.idcl library. Why does Inventor hold on to the old name?

A second issue question:

Say you have a custom library on a shared server location named custom.idcl. This library is replaced with an updated library with the same name. But you discover this updated library has some errors. So you copy over the updated custom.idcl with an earlier version of custom.idcl (but not the same as the original file).

But now when you use Inventor, it is using parts from the updated custom.idcl library, even though the library file itself has been replaced with an earlier version that doesn't include the part you were just able to choose. And to add to the headache, the new library file OURcustom.idcl that has been added to the server is not seen by Inventor and can't be added to the project.

Any ideas? Is it just a simple fact that you shouldn't use file explorer to copy and renamed library files? I don't think I've had a problem doing that before. I have restarted the system a few times and it makes no difference. I have checked all the options for content center library locations and all seem to be correct.

Guessing there's a discrepancy of the display name and the filename causing issues.  Under configure libraries, select the library displaying wrong, right click/select library properties and change the display name.  The display name and file name match by default, but when the file name was change in explorer it doesn't automatically change the display name.  Guessing that having both versions  in the same folder will cause issues.

Thanks, WG, never knew that option existed.

Now to see if it solves the second issue of using data from a replaced CC library.

Deleted the second version, and that fixed the second issue. Thanks again
