Re-numbering items in Parts List

Anonymous
Not applicable

I want to be able to re-number the items in my parts list, which I can do, but I also want the parts list starting from 1, 2, 3 etc... I can change the numbers on the parts in the IDW no problem in the parts list, but when I resort the parts list the numbers shown in the Parts are out of order?

Thanks

Well.. provide us some info/detail on how/what/why you are numbering them and how you are "resorting" them..

screencast or images or provide the drawing/parts..

Hi KevinPinks7697,

When you renumber from the Parts List you will want to push those overrides back to the BOM, using the Save Item overrides to BOM button:

Note too that if you right click on your parts list and choose Bill of Materials. If you do your renumbering there, it will automatically update the Parts List and balloons, assuming there no overrides in them.

Having said all of that, I 'm not sure I follow this statement: "but when I resort the parts list the numbers shown in the Parts are out of order"

What numbers in the parts are speaking of?

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

My method has always been to edit the Assembly Bill of Materials, sort by Part Number, and then with the list sorted, renumber items.  Then on the drawing when I place my Parts List form that BOM, I sort the parts List by Item and check the box for Auto Update (at the bottom of the dialog box).  Then if the BOM in the assembly changes, I resort and renumber, and the Parts List updates automatically.
