Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone can help.

once i have completed an assembly and i put the ray trace setting on, my assemblies look rather realistic.

is there away to get that same realistic look if i had to take my assemdly into a dwg ( paper space)

Thank you.

Understand that paper space is an Autocad term and really doesn't apply to Inventor drawings.

With that said, the only option you have for any kind of rendor or shaded type image in the drawing would be here when you edit the view.

If you need "realistic" then you could render/raytrace to a jpg/png and then bring that into your idw.  It obviously won't update with the model, but if the requirement is realistic images to show off a design, then it's an option.

Hi Sam,

Thanks,

That actually sounds like a perfect subsitiute....:)

My next question..... how do a ray trace/ render it to a jpeg/png and the bringit back in.

Would i be able to bring the jpeg/png into the dwg instead of the idw?

Or do i take it into the idw & then from there into the dwg?

Thanks!! 🙂

Within the part/assembly, depending what "realistic" view you're after:

With Studio: From within studio render image and save out to a file.

Raytracing/realistic visual style: Get the image on the screen and then save copy as -> change filetype to png/jpg/bmp/etc and save out (the options button will allow you to specify an image resolution).

Within an idw:

Manage tab -> Insert Object -> create from file -> select file and click ok.

By making sure the "link" option is NOT ticked it will embed the image into idw, meaning the image file can be deleted/moved so you don't have to worry about managing the file link (at the expense of a larger idw file).

No idea about dwg I'm afraid, as I use idw, but I'm sure there's a way to import an image into it.

Just don't expect to be able to balloon an image of an assembly.. But for a "realistic" image up in the corner of a drawing or something saving to an image/inserting works perfect.

i most definitely don't expect to ballon anything. it is just to have a realistic looking view.

Thanks
