"ORTHO" Mode for Text and Leaders DWG

Is there a method for moving text on Inventor DWG's in an ortho type way (F8)? I have played around with CNTRL some but it seems like there are things like section and detail view titles that it would be beneficial to have this functionality.

Hi! I am sorry I don't think I understand this request. Are you trying to do it in an Isometric view. Please share an image or a drawing that illustrates the request.

Many thanks!

When using AutoCAD, the user can select F8 to use ORTHO mode. This makes it so that lines can only be created in vertical or horizontal directions and it also applies to moving items such as leaders, leader text, blocks, etc.. Is there a within Inventor DWG's to make it so that items move in this manner. Currently there are no limitations therefore it is harder to get these things to line up when doing annotation.

@estringer @johnsonshiue

I'm not aware of any equivalent in Inventor DWG to the F8 Ortho functionality.  But if your drawing is in DWG format, you can edit in AutoCAD for those things that you need to line up that way.

Hi! If you like using AutoCAD's drafting workflow, you may want to look into the following options.

Option 1: Use AutoCAD VIEWBASE command to create associative drawing views from an Inventor ipt or iam file. Then use AutoCAD drafting workflows to annotate the views.

Option 2: On AutoCAD Mechanical, there is a way to link to Inventor components (ipt or iam) in Model Space. Then you may create drawing views based on the geometry in the Model Space.

Many thanks!

This is something that I didn't know. Does it come out cleaner than when you export an .IDW to .DWG? (i.e., if I OVERKILL, will it find 733,000 duplicate line segments, and leave me with 50 MB of other stuff to purge?) And can I still select an .IPT or .IAM in ACAD M and change the layer for the full item, rather than doing it one line segment at a time?

Hi Gabriel,

I am sorry I only know about the availability of the workflow, not the behaviors. I am not sure how AutoCAD handles such geometry. I guess you are right. The way such views are created via Inventor Link should be the same as any 3D geometry in the Model Space.

To have Inventor-like drawing views, you will want to use AutoCAD VIEWBASE.

Many thanks!

Looks like it will require more experimentation. I may have been using Inventor for 15 years now... but I've only had AutoCAD Mechanical installed for about 15 minutes.
