"greyed out" sheet number in the "edit field text" box

how to edit sheet number when it is "greyed out".  At my previous job, this was a simple thing.  I cannot figure this out with a standalone version of Inventor 2024.  I can change the I-properties that are not greyed out but not the sheet 1 of 1 and 1 of 2 etcetera.

If you were to edit the sheet within Inventor 2024, is the option "Exclude from count" enabled?  That option I believe can be enabled or disabled regardless of how many sheets you add to an idw.  But in order for that area to function as expected in the first place, you will have to have a 2nd sheet added at a min.  Hopefully something within this reply helps.

Thanks for the suggestion.  When I add a second .IDW and enable the "exclude from count" the sheet number goes from 1 of 1 to blank of 0.  And the sheet number is still greyed out. 

This is just a nuisance more than anything.  I'll figure out something else.  John

How is your title block set up?

Are you manually entering the sheet number and the total number of sheet?

It's normal for these to be done automatically by Inventor

I'm not setting anything up.  I was just using the stock drawing template in Inventor.  Over the past couple of years, I normally would just edit the sheet numbers, so they made sense.  If Inventor can do it automatically, then that would work.  I have been developing sheet metal patterns and doing simple drawings for 20 years, but I still don't know all the ins and outs of the system.   I appreciate your efforts.  I can work around this minor issue for now.  thanks John

Inventor can do it automatically, and that's why you can't edit the sheet number.  It's an automatic thing determined by the order and number of the sheets in the drawing.  So generally, if you want the sheets in a different order, then you put the sheets in that order.  The system takes care of the numbering.  I've used Inventor since about 2006, and have never seen a situation where manually changing the sheet number was needed.

As for your issue with "Exclude from Count":

• If you have two sheets, and then exclude one of them, it should say "sheet 1 of 1", just like it would if you only had a single sheet.
• It would say "blank of 0" if you exclude all of the sheets - in which case the sheet count of 0 is technically correct.  That would be the case if you only had one sheet in the drawing when you tested the exclude setting.  

You said that you "added a second IDW", but I'm not sure what you meant by that since you can't add an IDW to another IDW.  This may sound like I'm being nitpicky about terminology.  But the phrasing makes it unclear what you actually tested, so it's hard to know what really happened without clarifying this point.

In that case, your results make sense.  Each of the two IDW's don't even know the other exists.  They have their own independent sheet counts.  

So when you tested it by making a second IDW, you created that second scenario I mentioned, where you were excluding the only sheet from the count.  So technically it was giving you the correct result, just arguably not a very useful one.
