Properties out of date

When checking out one or more files from the Vault (in Inventor), the question always appears: "Properties out of date: Some properties may be out of date. Do you want to update properties?". Is this normal behavior (after all, it is always possible that properties are not synchronized) or is it due to a configuration choice in my Inventor or Vault application? Synchronize properties gives the result that everything is already synchronized. The behavior also does not necessarily result in a Dirty document.

Hi René,

I assume this is about opening a drawing file, when some properties are linked. If possible, please share an example that illustrates the exact behavior. It will help facilitate the discussion further.

In the meantime, I suggest you change the Save options in Tools -> App Options -> Save. Set every option except Migration to "Prompt to Save." And set the answer to "Don't Save."

Some users do not like to see files being prompted to save. However, if you want to keep everything in sync, you will need to ensure all changes are saved.

Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated. Install Inventor 2023 and Vault 2023 updates.

Thanks for the reply. It's not just a .DWG. Even with an empty .IPT. I have all automation and add-ins disabled so that they cannot interfere with it.
I noticed it because I try to have my new automation-creations only pollute a document when a change actually occurs (and not when a value is overwritten with the exact same thing)...

Currently all of my "Save States" with a "Prompt to Save" are set to Yes, except for "Mass Property Update" and "Implicit Update". I will set them as you suggest.

I attach great importance to the file information being correctly synchronized to the Vault (this is due to a CAD-ERP link). With or without Prompt for Save.

Windows is fully up-to-date. Inventor and Vault unfortunately not (both on 2023.4.2, while resp. 5.2 and 6.1 are already available). I still have to do the latter with IT.

Attached is an example of an empty part where this "problem" consistently occurs. I accept the updating of the properties. I save and check in again. A new version is not created in the Vault. So it seems that updating the properties was not necessary. I started to doubt the phrase "may be" and wondered if it is not just an announcement for the check instead of an actual statement of out of date properties.

In the Vault Client I already have all Prompts set to Always Prompt. I also think I have already determined that e.g. the shared ipt is already up-to-date in terms of properties (Synchronize Properties from Vault results in Success, No changes necessary). By the way, I almost always open my files from Inventor (with option: open from Vault).

My "issue" is the Prompt with caption "Properties out of date" in Inventor when Checking Out a file from Vault. This seems to suggest that there are actually properties out of date. The opposite is true.

Because I am currently alert to unnecessary pollution of documents caused by self-made overzealous code, I suddenly noticed this Prompt (and I did not know whether this message is always shown, or now suddenly). By completely disabling my own code and addins I now know that my code has no influence on this.

The only question is whether my system is functioning properly.
If it is normal behavior that this Prompt appears (even when Properties are already in sync), then I have no issue / then there is no issue...

Hi René,

It is hard to tell if it is working correctly. We do have bugs. One thing you could check is a hidden debug tool. When you suspect if a file is truly dirty, you can bring up a debug tool to check the bit status.

Go to Help -> About -> press Shift+Ctrl+D. You will see a small dialog like this. The dirty flag is pretty much self-explanatory.

I'm familiar with this hidden debug tool. The document is assumed to be Not Dirty (Dirty Bits = 0X0).

Only when I explicitly save, a new version is created in the Vault. Otherwise the CheckIn results in the same as an Undo CheckOut.

My Inventor is now on version 2023.5.3 and the Vault (Client and Server) on version 2023.6.1. So I seem to be up-to-date.

I think I'm going to assume this prompt is a legitimate one indicating there may be a chance the properties are not up to date...
