Projecting 3d surface area to 2d sketch

Hi everyone,

I wonder if there is a tool to project the surface of a 3D body to a 2D sketch but with the exact measurements (same surface area), so not using the project geometry function.

I am looking for the opposite function of "wrap to surface" where you bring a 2D sketch onto a 3D surface with the same surface area.

Thanks for helping!

Hi

  1. Sketch 3D -> Wrap
  2. Sketch 2D -> Project

Hello Kacper,

Your answer is not sufficient to solve my problem.

To make it more simple, i want to become the result from the first picture if i only have the second picture (3D part)

Unwrap but you need that cut out surface to unwrap.

Hi! Another option is to leverage Project to Surface command in 3D Sketch. There is an option called, "Project to Nearest Point."  This means the 3D curves (or edges) are projected to the nearest points on the selected 2D plane.

Many thanks!

The Unwrap function was the solution to my problem.

To explain the usage of this solution to future questions by the community:

When a seal or object of another material is drawn on a curved surface, it is important to export the face as a flat surface to produce it in an extruder or mold and later on, to be placed in the object.

Projecting such surface would decrease the actual surface area which makes a smaller part.
