I lost access to an assembly when trying to add it as a project in the project manager. I think I saved the incorrect file as a project in the project manager and now when I try to open the assembly (an .iam file), it fails to open and I get two errors; The database in [pathway] could not be opened, and Error opening a storage in database [pathway].
Is there anyway to reverse what I did?

If you are calling "Project Manager" as the "Projects" window accessible under the "Get Started" tab, you can only add .IPJ project files there. Those act as a guide to all the project settings under which your design files will be opened and set (styles, folders to access, etc.).
If you tried saving an .IAM extension file (assembly) as .IPJ (project file), you would get an error:
If your assembly has a database error, please include a screenshot of the prompt here. Usually those are irrecoverable. However, there is a good chance that you do not know exactly what you are describing, and only a subcomponent of your assembly is indeed corrupted, leaving the rest intact to use.

That sounds like what I did. These are the two errors I get when I try to open the file. Is there any way I can restore or reverse what I did?
I do have older file versions of the same assembly, but when I try to open them I get the following error. If the previous file is gone then is there any way I can use these older files instead?
First make sure you're opening the assembly in the same version from which it was saved, or using a newer version of Inventor.
You could attach your IAM here so others can test, or message one of the QA developers (please include a good explanation of what you need) that check this forum often to try and open/salvage the file for you (for ex., @johnsonshiue 's e-mail should be johnsonDOTshiueATautodeskDOTcom, see below).
But using standard tools we have, I think you have no choice but to use whatever previous version/copy is available and working. This one is toasted.

Hi! Gabriel is right. The files look like corrupted or you are attempting to open an assembly saved in a newer release of Inventor on an older release. Please feel free to share the files here or send them (zipped) to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I am more than happy to take a look and understand the behavior better.
Many thanks!
