When I open a Pro E .prt file in Inventor containing any "Family table parts" I get the wrong variant.  I'm told that it generates this type of part on demand, so when I open it, all I get is a generic version.  Is there a way to tell Pro to generate a seperate part for each table member?

All translators function in pretty much the same manner - producing "dumb" solid bodfies of the current translated version.

You will have to re-model the part from scratch to produce a table driven component. There is no other way.

Kevin,

Please look in the Help for Pro/E import.  I don't know the details myself, but I know we support "Family Table Parts".  It requires writing out more than just the ".prt" file from Pro/E and the Help for Pro/E import describes it.

I hope this helps,

Roger,

Can you help me find that information?

A search in the Wiki for 2012 does not find any information for "Pro/E" or "Pro/E Import"

The only area I found that mentions importing from Pro/E is this:

http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Inventor/enu/2012/Help/0073-Autodesk73/0684-Collabor684/0692-Translat69...

However, In Pro/E, you would have to generate each tabled part, then in Inventor or other solds packages, import as "dumb" solids.

This note was in the built in Help, apparently not carried over to Wikihelp. Smiley Sad

Note: To import part or assembly files that contain family table instances, load your model into Pro/ENGINEER and save the accelerator files (.xpr or .xas) along with the Pro/ENGINEER part or assembly files. The accelerator files contain the specific instances referred to by the family table.

I had to do a little digging to find a description how to do this in Pro/E:

1. Open the Pro/ENGINEER file in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire.

2. File -> Instance Operations -> Accelerator Options

3. A dialog pops up

4. Choose Always, and hit Purge button. Close the Dialog.

5. Save the assembly again—there will be some .xpr/.xas files generated.

Open the assembly in Inventor—Then we can read the instances into Inventor.

This will get the instances translated correctly.  However I assume to original question was about brining over the family table which would take an iPart/iAssembly capability would be a good wish list item.  Smiley Happy

I hope this helps,
