Problems with unresolved parts and project files

See the attacched gif files. The company is using Team Center and initially we thought it was a problem with that, but I do not have team center and have the same problems.

So if we open an assembly sometimes parts used in the assembly are found and sometimes not. The parts are table based iParts. Sometimes one row in the iPart table is found and the other not in the same assembly using the same iPart!

So here is the project file: Note the path of TC.

and here I am opening the assembly...

...and here I am (you can see the baffled face in the screen reflection) looking at the error message...

This is a silent film and you can't hear the expletives. Here is the directory structure:

So both the ipart factory and the actual member file exists. Why can't Inventor find it?

I can resolveit  by hand and all works.

What can possibly be wrong?

@dgreaticethanks for the post, but we've been doing that for months. It is a problem of creation on different computers via the PLM cache, I think.

I am having a similar problem. But it sounds like it comes down to operator error on this particular problem. I moved some files and renamed some files through windows.  The misunderstanding was Inventor would not pick up the replaced files not realizing it went by internal ID instead of name like another solids program does. Pity you all do not put a way to direct the assembly during opening to the new file like that other program does.

All the locations that require Inventor to looks for files, should be included within the Projects file.

Hi! There is a bit misunderstanding here. Inventor use document ID and also file name to resolve the files. However, if there are files with the same name, it will prompt users to pick one. In some cases, depending on how the folders are structured and the sequence of searching, the first found file will be resolved.

It is unclear to me what exact problem you are having. If you set up the folder path properly in a project, Inventor should be able to find the files as long as the folders are in the project cone. Do you have an example showing the behavior you are seeing?

In my case a copy of a sub assembly that the main assembly was using was saved in a sub folder. However that sub assembly was using parts stored in the main folder along with the original sub assembly. I lost track of where the main assembly was drawing the sub assembly from and started to make extensive changes to the shared parts and the original sub assembly. When I finally brought up the main assembly it brought in the copy sub assembly in the other folder along with the now extensively changed parts from the main folder. Needless to say the thing no longer had valid surfaces or edges for the constraints and ended up looking like a pile of scrap. It was user error. Unlike some systems on Inventor's opening screen there is no option I have found to redirect it where to look for parts and sub assemblies. I just had to open the assembly and change out the sub fix some constraints and its back to the way it should be.
