Problem with Select Other in Inventor 2025

I seem to be having a problem with Select Other in Inventor 2025.

When I hover over an assembly (i.e. to measure or just select), and choose Select Other, the drop down shows miles away from the cursor and then fades away quickly before I have a chance to click on it.

In Inventor 2024 it’s behaving normally. I.e. the Select Other drop-down pops up right under / near the curser and is easily selectable to then scroll through and choose the geometry or part as desired.

Is this a bug in 2025 or a problem just for me? 🥴

Cheers!

Thanks.

I Installed 2025 this week. Just double checked and I'm running 2025.0.1.

If it's working fine for you, guessing it's a me issue then! 😩

I.T. were messing about with my machine this week. Perhaps there's something wrong with my machine or installation of Inventor 25?! 🤔 😩

What about installing a new graphics driver?

Well I updated my graphics driver.

Weirdly this fixed the issue when first checked.

But now back to the irregular behaviour! 😩

Not sure what to do now other than re-set Inventor.

Hi Oliver,

Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed. Another remote possibility could be related corrupted font cache. Close all apps. Go to C:\Windows\System32\ and find "FNTCACHE.DAT." Rename the file to something else. Reboot the machine. Now does it work more responsive?

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Right I have done as you suggested but to no avail.

Windows updates are all up to date BTW.

I then tried re-setting IV 2025 using the Inventor Rest Utility.

This also failed to fix the issue.

I then tried uninstalling and re-installed IV 2025.

This also did not fix the issue.

I then re-set IV 2025 for good measure (even though just newly re-installed)

Again this did not fix the issue.

As a last resort I tried deleting the NTCACHE.DAT file again and rebooted but alas... the issue remains.

So not sure what to do now.

Either revert back to IV 2024 or try and keep using IV 2025 and work around not being able to use Select Other (which will be frustrating I know).

Many thanks.

Edit.... Desperation has lead me to the culprit... Monitors!

Gradually pulling out monitor leads fixed the issue, which lead me to this setting in the Window Display options:

olivertilbury_0-1716907556661.png

Setting my main monitor with this check box (i.e. the monitor I most use with Inventor) has fixed the issue!

Such a relief!

I might say though that I do not get the issue in IV 2024. I.e. I can use Select Other and the drop down pops up right under the curser as it should whether I have Inventor on any of my 3 monitors.

For whatever reason, I still have the 'miles away from curser disappearing selection drop down box' issue with IV 2025 on monitors 2 and 3. But at least now I have a fix to make it behave correctly for my main monitor using the above windows setting!

So whether this is a me issue or quirk of IV 2025 I do not know.

Many thanks anyway for all the above suggestions.

I've had this problem too, and changing my main monitor solved it!

It also solved a similar issue I've had with other pop-up boxes being unresponsive when clicking on it. Ex: When making a new work feature plane, it would not expand the menu for selecting list parameters and such.

I did what Oliver wrote and it fixed mine.

At least for right now.

I'm having this issue as well, on IV 2025.1.1.  This happens only on my secondary monitor, and the selection pop-up is always far to the left of the mouse.  If I pan the graphics toward the left far enough, then perform the operation that generates the selection box, it works fine.

Another similar problem occurs when I click the "clear appearance overrides" button, or the direct edit button; the pop-up displays, but clicking on it does nothing because it's graphically in a different spot from where it's supposed to be.

I have a hunch that it's got something to do with 4K resolution, since the other two guys on my team don't have this problem with their 1080 monitors.  Or, maybe they're just using Inventor on their "main monitor".

And, as stated above, this behavior does not exist in Inventor 2024 or 2023.

edit: I don't think I'd call this one "solved" as much as "workaround found", since changing your main display has other implications that may not be desirable for everyone.

My monitors are not 4K so I think it has more to do with the windows 'main display' setting - or at least that appears to fix it.

@johnsonshiue - perhaps this is a bug in 2025 that needs investigating, especially as this behaviour does not exist in Inventor 2024 or 2023 and is effecting a number of people.

Thanks

@ak-thermovac faire points re. the 'solved' status.

Although at least it pins it for others to quickly find the workaround solution if they find themselves here.

Had the same issue and the "main monitor" fix solved it.

Absolute idiocy that an issue like that exist in the first place, but at least I can work now.

Thank you!

Excellent work in finding the answer. I have lived with the same problem for months since installing Inventor 2025 making the Cad screen my main monitor fixed it. Thankyou

FYI, the 2025.2 update has resolved the problem for me.  Even running Inventor on my secondary display (not main), the mini toolbars pop up in the correct location now.

Yes I saw this was part of the 2025.2 update but I've only just got round to updating.

Now indeed fixed!

Thanks.
