Problem with rip command

Attached is a simple reducer cone made from 14 ga stainless. I am trying to rip it to create a flat pattern, but despite following the step by step on several youtube videos I can't seem to get it to work.

Please take a look and let me know what I am doing wrong.

Thank you

Hi,

In attachment is file created in I2022.2. I removed shell feature and used Thicken on surface feature. Thicken feature adds material normally on surface what is necessary for sheet metal.

3D Model (tab) > Convert to Sheet Metal > Rip
You will also need a line or point to point on the surface of the cone where you wish to create the Rip:

Thanks for taking a look. Unfortunately I can't open the file as I am running 2021.

That said, I have used the rip command successfully on other parts that featured the shell command.

What is different about this part that shell needs to be removed?

Yes, I have done that by following the example shown here:

https://www.google.com/search?q=rip+command+cone+in+inventor&client=firefox-b-1-d&channel=tus5&ei=gU...

I get as far as choosing the two points and then get an error message.

Hi, I forgot two important things.

1 For thicken command input desired thickness

2. Convert your model part in sheet metal part

Thanks for the pics, they pointed to the problem. I squared off both edges perpendicular to the rip line - as you show in your second pic - and the command worked.
