Problem when opening a 2024 ipt file using Inventor 2023

So I have Inventor 2023. I recently installed an update so I could open newer files. When I now open a 2024 ipt file the "Derive" command is highlighted automatically and if I click cancel the part disappears or if I say ok there is no features on display in the model browser.

When I open a file saved from 2023 Inventor there is no issue.

Any ideas why it is doing this or how to solve this?

Thanks

That's how it is.

Old version cannot work on new version files.

Install 2024 to edit 2024 files.

Thanks. I'll uninstall the 2023 version so and install the 2024. Thank you for the speedy response.

You can have both on same computer.

Need to be very careful not mixing different version files.

Sometimes the latest patch will open the newer version.

Hi! Technically, there is no workflow in Inventor "opening" newer ipt/iam files in an older release. Instead, you may derive a newer ipt/iam files in an older release assuming the older release has .3 or later updates installed.

There is another workflow to consider is to export the ipt/iam files as STEP. Then you may import (convert or reference) it to an older release. The reference import option behaves very much like deriving a new ipt/iam file in an older Inventor release.

Many thanks!
