Perspective View in Drawings

So my design is complete and I need to create images for the technical writer to put into manuals. The images need to be in perspective view because that is how people are used to seeing the world.

I use drawings because the result can be exported as PDF in vector line art, which scales, rather than a bitmap image which doesn't.

I've come across some limitations of using perspective view in drawings.

1) Detail Cannot Be In Perspective View

Place a base view on the page and make it perspective view.

When you create a Detail view from this perspective base view the detail will be orthogonal.

It doesn't show the same area of the original view.

2) Perspective Zoom Does Not Work In Drawings

In the model (IAM) and presentation (IPN) you can adjust the zoom of the perspective view using CTRL+Shift+Mouse Wheel.

But when you display the same view in the DWG environment it ignores the perspective zoom parameter and shows the default zoom. So my DWG image looks different from the IPN view that it was based on. Important elements are lost in the clutter of the background.

3) Cannot Reset Perspective Zoom Once Set

OK so I've just discovered that DWG does not support perspective zoom. How do I return my IAM or IPN to standard zoom. I can only increase or decrease the zoom. There is no 'return to default' option that I am aware of.

Hi! I must not have followed the steps correctly. I cannot seem to reproduce #1. A Detail view can always be created from a perspective view and it remains perspective.

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue , Thanks for your reply. I just created a demo to show issue 1. The bounds of detail A in the perspective view include the rectangular opening but Detail A shows the opening sliced open.

Is detail A a perspective of a perspective, causing the distortion, when it should just be a window on the perspective view?

It looks as if the border of the detail view is projected "into" the perspective view.

Something like this:

It's like the detail view is orthogonal but its border is projected using the perspective.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the files! I can reproduce it on my machine now. I also tried it on Inventor 2018 and the same behavior was there too.

It seems like a limitation unfortunately.

Thanks again!
