Hi

I would like to make a pattern of a 3d sketch (a line) and I cant find any solution to do it.

Purpose: I want to make a skeleton part for the framemodul and I want the 3d lines to be controlled by equations.

Can you do it the hard way and attach your file here for suggestions on easier technique?

Your design would probably be more stable if you model your frame and then drive patterning with equations at the assembly level.

I tried to make a pattern of my frame designed rod but unfortunately I couldn´t use the nice frame command "trim to frame" on thoose parts.

Hi

I made a simple test model of a skeleton. My goal is to make a model there I can change the lenght and width and I will have a constant 0.6 between the frames except for the edges.

0.6 mm between centres? The whole part is 3mm lon!? Are you sure that you want to model something that small with Frame generator?

Do you have an origional design image you are working from? Maybe we can help more if we understand where you are trying to get to?

Are you sure you didn't mean to use Meters as your units?

I would create a surface body rather than create and delete a solid body.

All of your sketch geometry is 2D - so I would use 2D sketch rather than 3D sketch.

I would not repeat the same dimension over and over again.

Workplanes 1 and 2 are not needed.

Once I know the desired units - I can show example of how I would proceed.

Hi

I just did a quick example of my problem. I did not focus on scale and how the skeleton was design. My main question is: How can I make a pattern of 3d lines? I want to do a stud design of a building and use Framedesign. I want to be able to change lenght and width and get the wall and roof design of the stud to be updated. I want 0.6m between the studs. I know that there are better program for this but do anyone know how to do it in Inventor?

So once again the example file is just a quick illustration.

You do not have any 3D lines in your sketch.

In my opinion you are making the problem far more difficult than it really is.

Model up a real example the hard way (any way you can) and I will demonstrate how I would do it in an easier way.

I turn the question back. Do you no where I can find a good example of how to make a frame design and have the amount of frames parametric depending on how long and width the building will be? I think my question will be quite clear without any examplefile that will be judged.

No, I have not bothered to do a search.

But I would make significant wager that an example could easily be created.  Good luck!

Here is how it can be done with a pattern:

Thank you Paul. This is that I am looking for. I understand that I need to do my frame design in one surface at a time not make up a 3d skeleton and try to make a pattern.

It was hard to exactly see what you do in the gif-file. Is it poosible to upload a file with better resolution?

Any way. Thanks for your respond, it will show me in the right direction.

I should of thought to do it as a screencast!

For this design, I created the outside frames of the design using the frame generator. The sketch that the design is based on is driven by two parameters, One drives the pattern length and the other drives the quantity to be patterned.

I then linked these parameters to the frame generator sub assembly, and created a pattern in the Frame generator subassembly for the rails using the same parameters.

The upshot is that a change in the part file updates the Frame skeleton, which updates the pattern.

I had a similar issue trying to make balustrade panels, which looks very much like what you're trying to achieve. Have you considered not using a 3D sketch but using multiple 2D sketches that allow patterns. Have a look at the solution I came to in article "https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/patterns-in-3d-sketches/m-p/7236675#M651428". Hopefully this will give you something to work with.

Cheers
