Parts List & Ballooning

Hi,

I'm quite new to Inventor and I've got a query on a drawing I'm working on. We have multiple sub assemblies of systems within a large assembly.

In our main assembly we use 'View Reps' to show each sub assembly separately within its enclosure. On our drawings we create a parts list on each sheet to balloon the individual parts within each sub assembly.

When doing the parts list, if I select using 'view reps' in my parts list then the parts list shows the items within the sub assembly and also every other component that's part of the main assembly.

Instead of doing this when creating the parts list rather than selecting a view or the main assembly, I selected the sub assembly I wanted to balloon. The parts list now just shows items within this sub assembly.

I am now ballooning but the balloons are using the main assembly to number the components and not the ones in the parts list. Is there a way of redirecting my balloons to look at the created parts list rather than the main assembly?

Many thanks

Rick

Hi Rick,

If I understood your requirement correctly, here is what you need to do. You need to create a PartsList for the subassembly. To do that, you need to have a drawing view associated with the subassembly only (not with the top-level assembly). Or, you create the PartsList by selecting the subassembly iam file.

You cannot ballooning the components using subassembly item numbers in the context of the top-level assembly.

Many thanks!
